Quick Thoughts: Hailing from the United Kingdom, singer-songwriter Joshua. James has been steadily gearing up for his solo debut album. Last year, James dropped two singles, both of which show his versatility and depth as a lyricist and musician. There’s plenty of jazz and soul influence in his music, and while his production is grand in itself, it’s his charismatic delivery of thoughtful lyrics that steals the show.
James’ latest track, Compliments, which he dropped today, sees him expand his musicality. Over a resounding brass section, James croons through catchy melodies that will get you in a groove. If there’s one thing that’s clear, James is not here for your approval, as he sings, “I don’t want no compliments,” throughout the hook of the song. We’re excited that James has dropped new music and we hope to hear more from him as he readies his debut album.
